The Neon Demon (2016)

Nicolas Winding Refn, you know I love you man, but you have to stop scripting your own movies. Nicholas is definitely at his best when he directs films scripted by others (Drive, Bronson, Pusher), but the films he's also written are almost always crap (Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives, this one). What a pretentious, slow and boring art shit. Nicholas clearly wants to honor the giallo genre with this work and this is a hell of a well filmed film, very beautiful scenes and Nicholas clearly has an eye for cinematography, but this is unfortunately a total style over substance pretentious masturbation. I would have liked to like this, but no. 4/10

Malignant is pretty fucking hilarious. Soap opera acting throughout, a second act that drags, but the third act is glorious. I had a good time with it.
