It's alright. Dr No and From Russia With Love have a unique charm to them, because they're the only ones that are pure spy films, not James Bond movies. However, between the two, I'd much rather watch the latter. Dr No's kinda uneventful. Bond just wanders from place to place until he finds Dr No and kills him.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 2:23 pmWho the hell likes Bond movies and doesn't know Dr. No was the first one? It was also one of the best. Simple, pure and unsullied by decades of fan-wankery and attempts to be modern.

Re: Movie Thread
I kinda like Roger Moore - mainly because so many of his movies are so fucking batshit insane.
Eddie's actually not a bad Rudy Ray Moore - in fact he's in that movie with Wesley Snipes - Coming to America sequel is gonna go the way of the Borat and Anchorman sequels, tho. At least unlike the other two, I don't give a shit about Coming to America.

The House That Dripped Blood
I've been watching a lot of Vincent Price stuff. This isn't that, but english horror definitely scratches an itch that modern horror can't reach. Maybe I'm just being a hipster about it though.
I also started up Exterminators of the Year 3000 or some dumb movie like that. Can't remember the name exactly. I only mention it because the acting is abysmal (I think it was recorded in Italian and then dubbed to English,) but the car stunts approach Mad Max levels of quality. Check it out if you like practical car stunts.

Started watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990). I haven't watched any of these Turtles movies before, I only know the franchise from the 80's cartoon series and from a couple NES games, and sheeet, nothing prepared me for such heavy-ass drama.

The first movie is really the only good one. Stupid angry parents complained about the violence so they toned things down with the second movie (removing Casey Jones entirely). The third one is no longer using Jim Henson's company and the Turtles and Splinter look crappy (but not as crappy as the later Michael Bay TMNT movies), and the writing is bad, too. The CGI TMNT movie was OK, but not as good as the original live-action one. Never saw the Michael Bay movies but they looked like shit based on the trailers.veris leta facies wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 2:34 pmStarted watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990). The 2003 4Kids series is good, too. Never saw any of the TV shows after this one. The latest one (Rise of the TMNT) looks like garbage (e.g., they turned April O'Neil into a little black girl) and the people that worked on the show post pictures of the Turtles fucking each other on their DeviantArt pages, so I have no intention of watching it.

Best comic book movie ever made. You should be in jail right now for waiting 30 years to watch it.

Second movie was good but was more comedy than action. It feels very "studio" whereas the first was a gritty independent movie. Replacing Judith Hoag with Paige Turco was a step down too. Paige is cute but isn't a very good actress and lacks Judith's presence.
The third movie was pure tardation. I'm not joking when I say the Tarzan Boy song was probably the best thing about it. They even chopped off April's hair just to be dicks.

The first TMNT is like something where all the stars aligned. The source material was treated with just the right amount of respect, and the level of grit was also just right.
They might've delivered something akin to that Mario movie if the crew or source material was just slightly off.
The second one is as cold as ice.
b) Standalone movies are boring in a post-MCU and -NolanBat world. Ya gotta have deep, movie-spanning character arcs.

I think this is called "bookending" or something. It's, like, pottery, and stuff.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 2:14 pmThere's a trend in tv of having the final episode end like the first episode. The Drew Carey Show, King of the Hill, and I'm sure a ton more did it. They do it in movies too, liking having Stark's last line in Highlander Endgame be his last line from the original Iron Man.

It was a simple formula for decades every 2-4 years a new standalone Bond film with an all new baddie and all new Bond girl. Even when Roger Moore was Bond and it sucked it was still Bond fuck they had Bond get married and his wife murdered in OHMSS and by Diamonds are Forever it wasn’t even an issue.

Watching Fatman because it’s Mel Gibson and Mel Gibson is the greatest.

Re: Movie Thread
I think it's unfair to slam Nolan for that shit. Trilogies have been a thing for books and movies for ages.
The cancer with the MCU is that they are designed to never end.
