So they're rebooting it because they literally can't make money with the old stuff

"Cultural icons" my ass. Those movies suck and they always did.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 4:20 pmThe originals' position as cultural icons means whoever owns the IPs in Current Year will always try to recapture the magic. Aka make some bucks with a soulless rehash.

Universal classic horrors are a lot like classic Doctor Who. 90% of the acting is shit, they’re short and cheap but the good stuff is iconic.

For once, don't be such an ignorant retard. The monster movies Universal made in the 1930s are genuinely iconic, and some of them hold up pretty well. The Invisible Man (1933) is, in my opinion, the 2nd best monster movie that Universal made. It's surprisingly fast-paced, has a lot of fun with its premise, and some of its special effects still look good. I would bet you haven't watched it.Guest wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 5:07 pm"Cultural icons" my ass. Just because it's old doesn't mean it has to suck.

Re: Movie Thread
While we're on the subject of the Universal monster movies; the Bela Lugosi Dracula is the most overrated of the bunch. Bela's performance is a lot of fun and the film moves at a brisk pace, but there are some bizarre plotholes (you can tell they edited it down to keep it as short as possible), the ending is anticlimactic, and some of Todd Browning's directing choices result in unintentional cheese (e.g., the scene where Dracula in bat form comes into a room; the rubber bat continuously flaps in one position). The Mummy is the worst one of the big five; it's only 71 minutes long but feels much longer than that thanks to its lethargic pacing. However, Boris Karloff does a good job, and some scenes are effectively atmospheric. Frankenstein has some unintentionally funny moments, but is overall pretty good. Bride of Frankenstein is by far the best of the bunch; its a masterpiece.
Yup.
