With modern DAWs and software amp modeling, no excuse for shitty sounding instruments. Bad drums? Quantize and trigger them. Only thing you need to mic is vocals.

No kidding. There was no Bass EQ in that at all. None. I've heard demo tapes from the 80s that sounded better than that, and those were often recorded on the shittiest equipment of the time.

I could post a dozen right now. Shit recorded in little home studios or the practice room by young people for cents, recorded and duplicated on cheap cassettes and mangled through the YT bitcrusher has an excuse.

I have no idea why people hated on Venom's fourth album Possessed so much.

Personally, I never cared much for Venom. But I've noticed that newfags suddenly claim they played Black Metal, as in the genre, which is nonsense. Since when do people listen to Chrono's dumb claims?

They're proto-black metal like Celtic Frost and other "sort of" black metal groups of that era. I just classify them as Thrash/speed/general heavy metal.

They're not fucking even proto anything and never have been. Newfags ruining absolutely everything, man! For decades everyone made fun of Chronos for his gay hissy fits about how Venom is Black Metal because they named an album and a song like that.

Venom is NWOBHM or Speed Metal. Sloppily played at that. Don't get me wrong, that's the appeal and I know that. They are not Thrash either.
Huge influence on a great many bands. That's indisputable. They just aren't the actual founders of any genre. They never made a single album or even song that's outside of Speed Metal or NWOBHM.
