Re: Non-cape tv show
When I was a kid, the major TV networks all did different things during late nights.
NBC had the comedy talk shows. Carson and Letterman.
ABC went with news. Ted Koppel interviewing people in NIGHTLINE.
CBS floundered. I remember a time in the 90s when they filled that slot with new, trashy, low-budget detective shows, like SILK STALKINGS. They weren't much of a player late nights until they got Letterman.
Now the networks all give you same thing and for a dwindling audience. A group of white guys who shill for the Democratic party and agree with each other about everything.

Late night talk shows are an anachronism of your time, like perm hairstyles and putting ham in Jell-O. They are Sears in television form. They survived as long as they did because Carson was so good it but he's been dead for 20 years now.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 3:46 pmWhen I was a kid, the major TV networks all did different things during late nights.

Re: Non-cape tv show
Some big clothing brands who have stores in high-income, busy areas will keep their retail stores open even if they're not profitable because the store itself is considered an advertisement for the brand. Also, if Abercrombie & Fitch closes stores, they start to look uncool, which is death for their brand.
So, as long as they can afford it, they will keep "failing" stores open.
I think the TV networks take (took?) a similar approach to late night talk shows. It's a dying format that hasn't been influential for a long time, but the TV networks think that it looks good if they have them going.

The only one I think is probably safe is The Tonight Show. NBC isn't going to touch it after god knows how long. Though, they need to get someone better than Fallon. That does leave a **lot** on the chopping block, though.
EDIT:
Shit, Fallon's getting killed in the ratings. Less than half of what Colbert was pulling.

It's certainly funnier.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 5:06 amSeriously, an hour of random cat videos might be more profitable than Stephen Colbert interviewing Pete Davidson for six minutes

Hopefully Timey Telley Limey Blimey will be the next one to get fired. I mean, it's THE CURRENT YEAR after all.

It isn't 1988 anymore. It is retarded to keep this expensive, unwatched shit around because it makes boomers, GenXers and nostalgic media nerds misty-eyed.CuckTurdginson wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 5:43 pmNBC isn't going to touch it after god knows how long.

But if not for late night talk shows we wouldn’t have gotten this gem.

Eh, if they all get the axe I suppose people can watch international talk shows like Irish homo Graham Norton.

And it was as good a time to end it all on such a high note.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 1:37 amBut if not for late night talk shows we wouldn’t have gotten this gem.
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Jizzney will be officially absorbing Hulu.
