I wonder if the Nolan Batman is yet again at fault. Everything has to be a deep, serious character study these days, even in a movie based on stock footage of Japanese people in brightly-colored spandex.

Was it really that hard to ask for something akin to Hot Fuzz, aka an action flick that doesn't take itself too serious while being rad as hell? Gimme cool fight choreography and explosions, dammit.

The last few minutes, when they finally morph, are actually entertaining and colorful. If the sequel goes with that, basically making this godawful movie a prequel to the "real" Power Rangers, I would probably see it.

Rita is ridiculous here. Elizabeth Banks is kind of hot in the gold store scene with her tits hanging out, but otherwise her character is superfluous. She's the former Green Ranger who betrayed Zordon and killed their team, but the movie never tells us why. She also resurrects Goldar, who here is just a big gold cg blob that shows up for ten minutes. For some reason she tries to seduce Trini, who is apparently like her, but again that goes nowhere, and she is literally defeated by Jason's bitch slap, which sends her hurtling into space. I'm not exaggerating.

And once again the smart character is autistic. Because all intelligence is directly tied to mental instabilities and/or drug problems.

Y'know, nobody goes to see John Wick or Taken to see the lead character spend a scene fucking people - they go to see the lead character fuck people up, so it's kind of a shame to see a female-driven action movie use sleazy lesbian fucking as part of its advertising drive. Except that would make the sequel more expensive, and the original wasn't too profitable.

(I think I've read Saban's making a killer at selling toys right now, but that also includes stuff from the shows which makes a lot more sense because who the fuck wants to buy those movie zords. Also toy sales don't really help your movie sponsors AFAIK.)

If they spent that kind of money in the first place, instead of going on about how they've made The Dark Knight of Power Rangers movies and virtue signalling about how they've got the first tard and the first dyke superheroes, they might have actually recouped their initial investment.
