Weebshit Thread
Re: Weebshit Thread
Most of JTTW is episodic episodes too, there's no real arc to most of it.

Re: Weebshit Thread
Whether or not the stories were written differently, my point about Journey to the West is that it's a religious story. Much like the story of Job or Moses freeing the children of Israel, its primary purpose is not to entertain you. The point of the story is that buddhism is the Truth; buddhism is awesome; buddhism is super cool. Monkey does beat up some demons, but it's all in service to muh glorious buddhism. I mean, you can glean entertainment from the old testament stories of warfare and conquest, but those stories are equally biased and religious in nature. That's all I was saying. The faggots who hype up journey to the west (extra credits guys are especially guilty of this,) always act like it's THE FIRST NOVEL or THE FIRST ANIMU STORY. It's a religious story about how Buddhism is awesome, that happens to feature a supernatural asshole monkey in it. Or, put another way, you could argue that Monkey is Virgil and Tripitaka is Dante. The structure of the two stories is quite similar.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2019 4:36 pmThe last good animu was Astro Boy 1963.I'm not sure if Journey to the West comes across as such an action-packed thrill ride for modern literature sensibilities. These old-ass tales are often written a bit differently.
Also Bram Stoker's Dracula is a bit of a dry read. I'd say Frankenstein aged better.
Yep. The stories all tend to unfold the same way. A) Party shows up at a place. B) Place has a problem. C) Tripitaka cries while Monkey says everything will be alright because he's OP as fuck. D) Monkey fixes the problem, usually with the help of Buddhist spirits or in service to Buddhism's values.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2019 5:15 pmMost of JTTW is episodic episodes too, there's no real arc to most of it.
SpoilerShow
Over the past few months, I've been using JTTW as my "on the shitter" book. It's fine when taken in small quantities, I guess.

'Shitposting' is not meant to be a literal term

So it's less of a coherent story and more of a collection of cautionary tales and fables. Wouldn't surprise me if those stories were based on even older folk tales or stuff.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2019 11:06 pmYep. The stories all tend to unfold the same way. Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Niggerpedia says theres been fictionalized versions of IRL Tripitaka's journey since it happened, even ones where he's palling around with a monkey from the 1400's. Incidentally you can read IRL Tripitaka's own recount of his trip to India in English on libgen.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2019 5:51 pmSo it's less of a coherent story and more of a collection of cautionary tales and fables.
