Re: Movie Thread
Any flaws this movie has is more than made up for with this Oscar-worthy performance:
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

So, The Crimes of Grindelwald just had the lowest opening in Harry Potter history.

The magical movie, which was released last Friday, took a modest $62 million (£48 million) in its opening weekend, falling short of the $74.4 (£57 million) taken by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in its opening weekend in 2016.
It comes after the Potterverse sequel debuted to mixed reviews and a series of controversies – including the ethnicity of Claudia Kim’s Nagini and the mixed response to Johnny Depp’s involvement as the titular villain.
Despite failing to cast a convincing magic spell over the US box office, the sequel still achieved global success – beating the success of the original in an impressive 43 of the 79 countries where it was released. It secured $191 million globally and achieved its highest success in China where the film took $37.5 million from some 20,000 screens.

The ethnicity of Nagini?
Nagini's a fucking snake. And... magic and shit. She could be a Klingon and it would still make sense.

Re: Movie Thread
Almost like it was a superfluous sequel to a dead horse franchise or something. It'll probably all be blamed on Johnny Depp not respecting wahmen tho.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 6:43 pmSo, The Crimes of Grindelwald just had the lowest opening in Harry Potter history.

A superfluous sequel to a prequel storyline of questionable interest and relevance to most people familiar with Harry Potter.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 7:08 pmAlmost like it was a superfluous sequel to a dead horse franchise or something. Is this like a Soy of Mordor 2 situation where the monster critter turns out ot be a hot chick or something?

They pull out this random shit about how she has a "blood curse" that can make her turn into a snake whenever she wants, but eventually it'll be permanent.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:54 pmIs this like a Soy of Mordor 2 situation where the monster critter turns out ot be a hot chick or something?

Re: Movie Thread
The weirdest thing about this new series is the whole "Fantastic Beasts" side. Like, okay, prequel about the previous big bad guy and young Dumbledore and their war I get, but none of this has zilch to do with Eddie Redmayne and his kooky Muggle sidekick chasing after giant CGI toy commercials.
That's why the first film was so lukewarm to me, because half of it was an amusing comedy about magical creatures being loose in New York and this mismatched team coming together to save the zoo from the big bad Ministry(kind of like a modern update on an 80s cliche). And then half of it was grimdark "war is coming" stuff. This one abandons the cutesy stuff almost entirely, but now it just feels contrived for Dumbledore to get this random quirky zoologist to fight against evil Johnny Depp.
It would've made way more sense to just do "Fantastic Beasts" and "Crimes Of Grindelwald" and call it A Hogwarts Story or something.
