There is no hope for the film industry. Either most of the studios get bought by/start gearing their films towards the Chinese and they do what you describe, or else they stay where they are and the social justice warriors do exactly the same thing, only for the ideology instead of the money.Mr. Saoirse Ronan wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 12:02 amAs bad as Hollywood is, I despair over a future where everything is made for the Chinese market. The Great Wall was the most toothless, generic, inoffensive piece of crap I've seen in a long time. Everything will be a soft PG-13, with no sex, no swearing, very little violence, and no ideas that could be considered "problematic" to a Communist film board.

There really is no third very unlikely option?
-On the internet, everyone end up being Spoony or Tim Buckley
-All fanbases are shit
-Most people had, have and will have shit tastes

You're better off hoping for the second option, because it means the industry will crash rather than getting a golden parachute in the form of the Chinese. Unless the Chinese start revolting, put an end to the Communist regime and free expression becomes popular in China.
Actually, thinking about it, that is your unlikely third option

I can't think of anything that would make me want to smash the communist regime more than having a shitload of awful movies cluttering up my local theaters.
They'll revolt and then they'll come after Hollywood next.

I don't think so. The Chinese regime is here to stay. At leat till their economic bubble bursts, then it's Three Kingdoms Reloaded.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 was one of the most disappointing cinema experiences I've ever had. Really enjoyed the films up until this point, even 4 was alright. But damn, Dead Men Tell No Tales is shit.

Re: Movie Thread
I thought 4 was kind of crap, the first one was a solid movie, 2 and 3 were dumber but the bigger scope of them made them a guilty pleasure for me, and some of the big action scenes were creative and the characters were cool at least. 4 was like 2 and 3 in terms of writing but with the subdued scale of 1, so it had nothing interesting in it for me.
So 5 is even worse? Damn.
That bubble will pop soon. Their private debt is through the roof like Japan's was prior to their crash in the early 90s that they still haven't completely recovered from. China has tried incentivise their citizens to buy stocks, then property and other shit to keep the bubble going.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 4:22 pmI don't think so. Apparently, it's supposed to be the last Pirates film, but knowing Disney, they'll likely revive it in 10 years or less without Johnny Depp.

They love the Hollywood shite. Censorship is so rigorous in China that pretty much the only native Chinese movies that get made are documentaries.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 6:57 amI can't think of anything that would make me want to smash the communist regime more than having a shitload of awful movies cluttering up my local theaters. They'll revolt and then they'll come after Hollywood next.

Only 15 foreign films are allowed a year. Though there taste is a bit different, the Warcraft movie did insanely well while stuff like the new Star Wars didn't do as well as they thought.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2017 2:19 amThey love the Hollywood shite.
