Re: Weebshit Thread
Dragonball animated continuity was very loose up until now. Things that appeared in the movies like Garlic Jr. or Gogeta would show up in the TV series and it was just kind of accepted even if it didn't make canonical sense.
In this movie, it's flat-out stated that the characters have never encountered Broly or Gogeta before.
It feels a bit like the Hollywood reboot plague, where something that was done perfectly fine before is being done again for no reason.
I can't really judge it fairly until I watch a proper rip of it. But I really felt like the original had more emotional "weight" to it. This seems to be a kinder, gentler 21st century Dragon Ball. Spoiler: Almost nobody dies in this. Even though they don't have a TV anime anymore and Masako Nozawa is 82, they seem like they want to keep dragging this out forever.

Even Freeza and Broly live. It could have been cool to have Broly kill Freeza, but no.

The best movie they made is now non-canon, nu-dragonball is worse than GT.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 10:49 pmBut so far, Bardock Father of Goku is non-canon now.

Even Bardock was never canon. The only canon as far as Dragon Ball is concerned is Toriyama's original manga.

At least Bardock and the Future Trunks movies actually matched the timeline in the original and basically retell what was explained in the original story (Frieza blowing up Planet Vegeta and Goku's dad being a low level soldier, Gohan mentoring Trunks in a post apocalyptic world where the Androids run riot). You have shit like in Tree of Might where Goku can do the Kaioken even though Tien, Chiaotzu and Yamcha are alive and in the Garlic Jr one where Piccolo knows who Gohan is even though when that happened Goku was dead.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:17 amEven Bardock was never canon. The Trunks movie was pretty different than it's mango counterpart. Not like it matters.

It's like coming up with an entire multiverse, only to then waste it on a tournament arc left them creatively exhausted (even moreso than usual).
I'm certainly looking forward to Lord Slug and that snake lady getting their well-earned canon status in the next movie.

The reason the Bardock movie 'matches' the manga is that the anime people did the movie, Toriyama enjoyed the movie so he included a Bardock cameo in the manga (I think Freeza sees his face when Goku shows up to fight him)Poonoo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:34 amAt least Bardock and the Future Trunks movies actually matched the timeline in the original and basically retell what was explained in the original story (Frieza blowing up Planet Vegeta and Goku's dad being a low level soldier, Gohan mentoring Trunks in a post apocalyptic world where the Androids run riot)

Re: Weebshit Thread
From what I recall the bardock and trunks stuff were technically tv specials not movies, that's why it can fit on the dbz canon, the movies were just "what if" kind of stuff with better animation.
