Re: Movie Thread
It’s one of my favorites of the 80’s summer slashers. Bizarre acting, very funny, and that ending. Yeah the current era people wanna ruin it, but Peter/Angela isn’t “trans” by any mean. He/she is forced into being a girl by a crazy person. If you don’t portray them as golden glowing saints you’re not doing them justice.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Sat May 24, 2025 8:10 pmIt's not officially summer yet, but in Texas it may as well be summer already and I have a few summer movie-watching traditions and one of those is....
SLEEPAWAY CAMP (1983)
1. I consider it the best 80s slasher movie and I've seen a billion of them
2. It's also hilarious. My wife, who's not into horror movies much, even likes it for that reason.
3. No one in it is normal.
4. Nothing that happens in it is normal.
5. The ending is still great.
6. Because of its legendary ending, this film is a source of raging debate about whether or not it's "transphobic". For the record, I don't think it's transphobic, but troons are sensitive assholes.
7.. Still, for the above reason, it's VERY unlikely to be remade
May I also recommend Mad Man and The Burning to pair with it? The former even has a sweet original theme song.

Re: Movie Thread
I was just a kid back in 1983, but I called my father and asked him, "Hey, is the movie SLEEPAWAY CAMP an accurate reflection of daily life in 1983? This guy on the internet said that it is and this other guy, who hasn't seen the movie also said that it is. He may have psychic powers. What do you think?"
He replied with, "Son, are you okay? Do you need a doctor?"
Anyway, most people who have seen and enjoy LE CAMP DE SLEEPAWAY agree that is an offbeat film full of very strange things. From the openly leering pedophile getting hot boiling soup dumped on him to the girl who dies from a hot curling iron shoved in her vagina, I'd say that it's not a movie for everyone.
I love the Aunt Martha scene early in the film. It sets us up perfectly for strange things ahead.

Exactly. If you take troons at their word, which is that they were BORN in the wrong body then this movie has nothing to do with that. It's a completely different situation. What they hate is that the movie treats it as shocking when it's revealed that the main "girl" has a penis (in an awesomely primitive early 80s latex and rubber construction). In their world, that should be no big deal.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sun May 25, 2025 5:42 amYeah the current era people wanna ruin it, but Peter/Angela isn’t “trans” by any mean. I love both of those films. I saw "The Burning" back in the 80s, but I didn't encounter "Madman" until decades later on Blu-ray. It has one of the better "telling spooky stories around the campfire" scenes in movies.May I also recommend Mad Man and The Burning to pair with it? The former even has a sweet original theme song.

Bridget from Guilty Gear was also forced into being a girl by his parents, and yet people are celebrating him as a trans icon because he ended up "liking" being a girl (aka parental brainwashing is okay if it produces the "correct" result).
Any Sleepaway Camp remake (which I'd say is not entirely unlikely) will probably go the same route.

Angela would just be killing TERFs in current year and celebrated as a hero. And you’re right about Madman, that opening campfire scene is awesome. Man LL you and I need to kick back and watch some slasher flicks, got a fire pit?

Even though in the film Angela’s legal guardian groomed him to transition at a very young age i’d bet it’s still considered less transphobic then Ace Ventura because in that film the men act disgusted when they found out the had sexual contact with a man.

Re: Movie Thread
There apparently has been a "Sleepaway Camp" remake in the works. It is (was?) intended be part of a new shared universe of classic slasher remakes. The "Slasherverse"! That is the worst idea I've ever heard. Also, a troon actor was cast as Angela.
The good news is that the last update on this was in 2021, so maybe it's been scrapped.

That studio sounds like Adi Streeshitter's Bootleg universe stuff, there's no way they'd legally get all those rights.
