The Big Four of Thrash Metal are really the big four of the Bay Area and have been determined by commercial success, not quality, absolute fucking ages ago.
Anthrax was super successful in the mid to late 80s, which is easy to forget. Their first two albums were alright, everything after is shit. But those hadn't come out yet.
If it was for quality either Exodus or Overkill should've been in their place.

Motörhead is right out because they play Rock'n'Roll Speed Metal and are from England.

If you wanted to switch out the shit members of Metallica, you'd only be left with Cliff and the dude is famously dead.
Lars has always been a mistake, Kirk hasn't had any ideas since the 90s and Hetfield is an over-emotional faggot ex-alcoholic that looks like a gay biker.

Mudstain is a better guitarist than Hetfield and Kirk but he's a massive twat and the worst vocalist in the genre. He went through band members and producers like Diddy through male prostitutes and has "nigga that never got punched"-syndrome in terminal stage. Regardless of that, Megafag is and has always been gay garbage on Testament levels of harmless.

Slayer smoked all of them from day one and later shit like Sadus, Sacrifice, Demolition Hammer, Rigor Mortis, Razor, Possessed, Sodom, Kreator and Morbid Saint utterly raped them. No contest!

Fagtallica was underwhelming in 85 and only ever got worse, getting obliterated by 88 the latest.

I knew it was about commercial success, but i didn't know that they were also in the same area - of course Metallica and MouseStain must've been.
Usually when someone mentions Anthrax, the only song people think about is the one that they made with Public Enemy that jump started the Rage Against The Latrine craze of the 90s.

Anthrax's greatest achievement was their spinoff group Storm Troopers of Death and their album Speak English or Die. It might be too Crossover for Kugle but I love it.

Speak English or Die and Public Enemy are arguably more culturally relevant than Anthrax is now.

The whole Big Four shit was coined before the 90s even, if I'm not mistaken. Anthrax had their fifth album out by 90 and was a big deal. People couldn't possibly know they would become so irrelevant that barely anyone ever even thinks about them today.

Bonded by Blood alone is a much better album and more relevant to warrant Exodus a place over them and Overkill is a much more consistent band to take that spot as well. I'd even put Testament over them. But that's not what it looked like to people back then.

The whole big four concept carried over to other regions. The big four of New York Death Metal are Incantation, Immolation, Suffocation and Mortician. Cannibal Corpse being originally from Buffalo but moving so early on that people often consider them a Floridian band.

The big four of German Thrash are Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and Tankard. Also holding up better than the original big four but I'd switch out Tankard for Protector.

It's always been a point of contention. Sadly we don't get to change anything about that. There even once was a tour called The Big Four with those bands, which would've been a pretty sweet deal back then all things considered. Yes, Metallica was the headliner. Yes, Mudstain was very mad about it.

Public Enemy is fuckin great, but they petered out pretty quickly after Fear of a Black Planet. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised Flavor Flav outlived Ozzy.

Master of Puppets isn't a thrash album. There's three thrash songs on there and that's being generous, and two of them are ruined by dumb soft intros.

Hell Helloween would belong way more to a German thrash big 4 thank tankard, and they're a power metal band.

I like Gerre and Tankard has written some awesome riffs but I agree that largely nobody gives a shit about Tankard. However, Gerre has been one of the presenters of the Rock Hard DVDs for many years and thus has a cult following.

If it was for me I'd substitude them with Protector and I'd even switch Destruction for Desaster, despit the latter being more 1st wave Black Metal.
