That seems like an unnecessary touch. Having seen the first movie recently, it is nice how it feels like a complete story where the characters win.

God, those DTV sequels were a cottage industry. If Eisner had been able to milk ten sequels out of anything from the Disney Renaissance, he would've came until he passed out.

Also, I saw The Jerk, directed by Carl Reiner, for the first time. Loved it, found that movie very funny. Really good use of a rape (ish) joke.

DHI is proof you can be both a massive homosexual and a virgin. They're not exclusive. If you display both in large enough quantities you can qualify for mod status.

"The Jerk" might be the funniest movie ever made.

I mean I’ve staked a claim that I would give the honor to Top Secret, but The Jerk is not far behind.

Rapeculture was raised by a black cropworker in Alabama.

When told he wasn’t blacked, that began his hatred of niggers.

But Lion King 2 was my sexual awakening.

I thought Rambo IV was overall a mixed bag. I give it points for some really great action, for having a darker tone, and for that nightmare scene. I like the idea of Rambo leading a group of mercenaries. Graham McTavish is always fun to have around.

But the dialogue was terrible, the editing was really slapdash at times (I had trouble following what was going on) and I'm not really sure I understand what message the film was going for. Rambo seems to think war is a natural state of humanity, but also that war is only caused by asshole generals? You're supposed to help others, but also it's naive and idealistic? I don't know.

The ending where he goes to his dad's farm was nice, but I was a little distracted by the way they recreated Rambo's 1970s appearance. It felt fan servicey.

Overall, I think it's about on par with the second film.

The Big Trail (1930) - John Wayne's first on screen role. And I actually like him at this point in his career, he was fun in Stagecoach too. Neat to see him like this, because I associate him with having a little more mileage on.

That and the cinematography's pretty. Movie itself is boring as shit, though. That's not a slight against the era, I think folks like Frank Capra, Fritz Lang, Howard Hawks, and the Marx Bros (writing this out, I suppose the comedies are the high point of the 30's) were doing great work in depression era movies, but this is waaaaay too plotless, and it doesn't replace that plot with anything interesting. There's a reason the really great westerns start coming out after Stagecoach, which I liked more than this.

A Simple Plan (1998) - Sam Raimi does Fargo. It's pretty good, Billy Bob Thornton plays a NEET, which is the funnest part of it. He got an Oscar nomination for this movie, which I'd agree with. I love how Bill Paxton progressively justifies all the dead bodies to himself, even though he killed like three of them. Love a good yuppie quasi-sociopath.

My only issue with this movie, and its a weird issue, is the dialects. One of the reasons Fargo is arguably a great movie is because they nail all the accents, Frances McDormand and William H. Macy are so midwestern in that movie. Here, A Simple Plan is also set in Minnesota, but both Paxton and especially Thornton have thick southern accents. I had to look up the setting, because I was wondering which Southern state got that much snow. Paxton was from Texas, and you've always been able to clock Billy Bob as an Arkansas boy; this isn't a knock against the acting, more so the location choices. I think they should have moved the action to like, maybe Kentucky.

Still a solid watch in its own right, if only Sam Raimi's 3rd best movie.
