Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
On a different subject, can we all agree Bathory's debut is fucking God-tier. I'm not a black metal guy but that album I can Doom too.

Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
FTFY.
Kerry King's album COULD have been listenable if he didn't tell Death Angel guy to sound like Trivium on it.
Seriously, the fuck is wrong with that retard? If you want core vocals get a core vocalist! If you have Death Angel guy, tell him to Death Angel!
What's REALLY funny is how his album was the only metal album on a Rolling Stone top 40 list and that's only because he did an interview with them.
If you told me Rolling Stone would have done that ten years ago I'd have thought you were on bath salts.
Last year my jam was Crypt Sermon, old school metal done by young people, which is frankly the only thing that matters to me these days:
Kugel may or may not like that, but I question his taste if he didn't like last year's Necrot:
Also Whitesnake kicks ass and anyone hating is being a too cool for school chump.

Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
Okay, I guess this will be a short one. Let's take a look at Kerry King (the band) with and of Kerry King (the guitarists).
After a long intro of a basic Thrash Metal riff to build tension - called Diablo to give us a not-so-subtle hint at the theme of the album - we are welcomed by the first song proper, called Where I Reign.
And just like that I knew exactly what this is. Do you?
If you had asked me from my age of 14 to 30 what my favourite band was, I'd have said it's Slayer.
I have five T-shits (including a Slaytanic Wehrmacht one) and two sweatshirts of them, had a Kerry King (the guitarist) poster and a Slayer flag on my room's wall, have all the albums, began playing the guitar and have two tabulator books for Slayer songs.
I just had one problem. Slayer hadn't been good since I was four years old.
So when the single for the upcoming album God Hates Us All, named Disciple dropped and was good, I couldn't wait to get that album!
It fucking sucked. Seriously, listen to it! It's shit. Disciple is good, the album isn't. Even then Disciple isn't as good as anything on the first five albums.
This, Kerry King (the band)'s album From Hell I Rise is just God Hates Us All part two.
People say it sounds like Slayer. Correct. Like bad Slayer.
The only real change here is a different vocalist. Speaking of which:
Not that I'm too familiar with Death Angel in general but I've heard some of their stuff and I don't know why you'd have the dude make a shitty Tom Aria impression.
I guess he hits some of the screams but this fucking song in particular:
gives off Five Faggot Fruit Punch style, extreme douchebag Butt Rock vibes!
Overall, it's mostly super uninspired Thrash Metal riffs. Neither the variation, songwriting and especially not the energy of Slayer is present.
Nobody does anything noteworthy here at the best moments and at the worst moments it's gay shit that would fit nicely on the shelf besides Avenged Sevenfold.
He thinks he's Dagoth Ur (the god).

Absolutely baffling! I thought "Who the fuck is this faggot?" and was really confused reading it's the singer of Death Angel. I couldn't tell by listening.Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 1:28 amKerry King's album COULD have been listenable if he didn't tell Death Angel guy to sound like Trivium on it.

I've read or heard an interviewer asking Kerry King (the guitarist) that question when the album want out yet. Hilariously, Kerry King (the guitarist) claims he initially had no name for Kerry King (the band) in mind and all the dudes just decided that they should name it Kerry King (the band) after it's most prominent member, Kerry King (the guitarist).
He thinks he's Dagoth Ur (the god).

That may be because it's not a Black Metal album. It's Speed Metal. Perhaps In Consperacy With Satan could be called first wave Black Metal but overall it's a Speed/Thrash Metal album.
The sound was a massive influence however.
And yes, it fucking rules!
Nah, not for me.Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 1:28 amLast year my jam was Crypt Sermon[...]

I wasn't aware of that release. I checked the last album out for a few seconds and put the band in the list of "shit to listen to later".Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 1:28 ambut I question his taste if he didn't like last year's Necrot
Necrot remind me of Carnation a whole lot. Solid stuff for sure! I'll throw it into the playlist.

Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
Disciple is kind of the worst song on there because of how indicatively crap the album will be with its goofy ass nu-metal chorus. People hate on Diabolous In Musica (as they should), but God Hates Us All was even worse.
In retrospect I think Slayer only had the psychotic Swftie-for-men cult following and reputation that they did because they were the anti-Metallica in the 90s. Granted that music wasn't good, but people were just glad Tom Araya and Jeff Hanneman didn't cut their hair. (Kerry cut his a few years before Metallica did, lol) Even Lars was pissy in interviews talking about fans were calling Slayer "an alternative to Metallica." Well shit you beta Nikki Sixx wannabe, maybe if you weren't putting out crap like Load and Reload and St. Anger that wouldn't have happened. Even the black album, which I like, but it's basically a more masculine Motley Crue record, a band they talked endless shit about to gain power then tried to be like them when the opportunity presented itself.

Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
Disciple at least had some fucking speed and aggression, which they previously lacked on the two shitter albums before.
As for the following of Slayer, I don't know about that one. Perhaps when it comes to the scale but them being held as one of the greatest Thrash Metal bands is well-deserved.
Now don't mistake me having been a massive fan of theirs for being a fanboy. I've never been that for anything.
But as I've been and still am building up for a comprehensive destruction of Metallica's Justice, I've spent months revisiting, rummaging and discovering contemporary Thrash Metal records and Slayer's first five albums don't just hold up, they outclass the vast majority of the genre.
Who really benefited the most from the anti-Metallica sentiment, as far as the Big Four are concerned, is Megadeth.

I saw Megadeth open for the Dio fronted Black Sabbath reunion (lets just call it what it was) and was quite pleased. His voice is shot today but who's isn't?
Anyway, I had a chance to see Slayer a couple of times but they always play at seated venues. Fuck that! Seats should not exist at metal/punk shows.

I'm not saying I don't understand Slayer's popularity, of course I do, for the reasons you mentioned. Judas Priest is also popular, but Judas Priest fans don't carve their name into their arms like Slayer fans do. Slayer fandom was so terrifying it felt like online was the only "safe" place to criticize them, and even then you couldn't be too careless.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 8:43 pmDisciple at least had some fucking speed and aggression, which they previously lacked on the two shitter albums before.

Justice could have been the greatest metal album of all time if James and Lars didn't feel like using it as a hazing session.
Mustaine definitely benefitted, and frankly he should have, if he had his way his songs wouldn't be on the first three Metallica albums.
Absolutely agreed. The only reason it wasn't called that was because of Sharon. The more time goes on the more I wish she died of cancer. One of a few people I will unironically say that about and not feel like a supersperg.
Slightly off topic, what do we make of this rising star?
