Re: Basements & Beards- Analogue Gaming Thread
There are conventions dedicated to a single MTG format?

Cube is a really popular draft (non-constructed) format, akin to how Commander is now the most popular MtG constructed format (which had a lot of fun drama happening to it recently).

Well, yeah. Because it's pretty much the only playable format by now.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 4:36 pmThere are conventions dedicated to a single MTG format?
Vintage is unaffordable, Legacy is nothing but ultra broken artifact decks and the two counter decks to it and all the other official formats are boring metafaggotry with shit versions of old cards you'd rather be using.
I guess Block Constructed would be viable but who runs Urza block tournaments?
Cube is the logical conclusion to any TCG. A nerd assembles a large set of cards, hand-picked to generate fair and fun decks and games, the cube, and from that cube you take random cards and run a draft game.
Still, ropemaxxing in a public park is pretty poor taste.

Re: Basements & Beards- Analogue Gaming Thread
Sounds to me like the game should've switched over to a Living Card Game format ages ago. But I guess the greed was too strong.
In other news, we have a Ravenloft novel on the horizon: Heir of Strahd.
On the surface it's your typical Ravenloft premise, where some D&D part from a different setting gets isekai'd into Ravenloft. Unfortunately this is Current Year, so you can bet the party is a bunch of queertastic hipsters who can't take the gothic horror serious.
The cover certainly makes them look insufferable, and even Strahd himself looks gayer than Edward Cullen ever did.
Ravenloft is ruined (again)Show

Also look at that quality composition. The alchemist lady effectively sprouts out of the bird guy.
And the less said about that Tiefling, the better.
>Disney Star Wars novels (not the one with the fart wedding, (un)fortunately)
>Pickle Rick comic
>Some fantasy girlboss comic no one cared about
Oh boy, that certainly sounds "promising". Anything else?
>written erotica as Ava Lovelace
I sure hope you love stories about getting impregnated by your father-in-law or grandfather. Truly this is what qualified her for writing a Ravenloft novel!

Just wait for my debut novel, a haunting tale of true existential dread that I would describe as "spine-tingling" if that phrase wasn't so offensive to the paralyzed.wulfenlord wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 9:52 amI don't see any prosthetics or combat wheelchair, fucking ableist rapril.

Re: Basements & Beards- Analogue Gaming Thread

Part 5: PbtA Anti-Colonization Toolkit
So I finally decided to finish this travesty of a RPG.
So this playtest comes with 3 adventures to try out, hopefully each with enough background that the GM doesn't have to make everything.
Naturally each adventure has its own list of content warnings, including shit like "snakes", "losing identity" or "batophobia" (aka "the fear of high objects or of high objects falling down", JFC).
The Hidden Moon
Set in bumfuck nowhere (aka somewhere in the Philippines), your off to find a set of moon-related artifacts (and a drum which is like a weapon of mass destruction or something) before some eeeevil paramilitary group can find them first.
Observations:
- The eeeevil paramilitary group is led by a Japanese chick
- It also has an advisor, who only exist as a bullet list entry, which is unfortunately because I'd really like to know why a "William" goes by "no pronouns, or they"
- The group also has someone who only goes by "no pronouns". That character only has a number instead of a name, and as far as I can parse the unhelpful text is like a drugged-up super soldier, aka an Eversor Assassin
- The two good factions of this adventure are exclusively made up of they/thems, which makes total sense for isolated island natives. There's like 10 of those fuckers, ffs.
- There's a list of flashback events, but it's all lame shit vaguely related to various colonizers (Spanish, Americans, Japanese). It's basically cutscenes that don't mean much of anything, like some shittier version of the Kafka RPG Noumenon.
Hey, it's that furry culture that kept poping up in examples of play.
This time we're in the French Alps, and the goal is some ancient horn (from Hannibal no less) protected by werewolves (probably just some Gallic hillbillies; whether there actually are real werewolves is for you to make up I guess).
Significantly more heteronormative this time around, with only a "she/her/it", "he/they" and "she/they/it" to ruin the mood.
Funnily enough the bad guys (another paramilitar group) has the highest concentration of theys and its.
Also apparently Christianity happened in the region because the two evil Stands sealed within the horn accidentally killed all the heathens. Whoops.
We also get a page's worth of some wolf fable about the origin myth of these. Are you like supposed to hand the players bits and pieces, or do you read that shit in one go?
The Cursed Dragon King
Now we're somewhere along the Yangtze River to stop a bad guy from using some ancient pearl to create bad Feng Shui for everyone or something.
The pearl in question belongs to the Dragon King Lóngwáng, a name that will definitely not cause some snickers at the table.
The bad guys are an eeeevil Chinese corporation run by a "he/they". Is that even legal in China?
There's also a group of anti-corporation townsfolk, who not only are apparently allowed to exist by the CCP, but are also 80% various flavors of "they" and/or "them".
There are also some text boxes including bits and pieces of a fable surrounding the Chinese zodiac, which I'm pretty sure is Chinese mythology fanfiction.
tl;dr: The amount of special snowflake pronouns is ridiculous, and there's a weird dichotomy between too much flowery prose text and too many characters that are never elaborated on.
Next Time: I dunno. Should I sperg about D&D retroclones, or Traveller?

You know how itch.io doesn't give a flying fuck about copyright infringement (though at least these "fan games" appear to all be free at least)?
Enter the Sonic tabletop wargame based on the cancer that was the Archie Comics continuity.
And the naval wargame spin-off.
Personally I don't get it. Now a Mario tabletop wargame on the other hand...
