Well, the core problem is finding other degenerates. Unless you already have a dysfunctional TPRG polycule, it's much easier to find players for D&D Current Edition as opposed to Obscure Marxist Cowboy Bebop.

I have a hunch a few of these are also sold as effectively an art book. If you wanna do a kickstarter (where probably all of your profit from the game comes from) for your copy-pasty narrative RPG thing, you gotta wow people with your (diverse) art.
A shame the art design generally follows the Concord-style of character design (or worse; do you want me to bring up the hairy magical "girl" from Glitter Hearts again?), or they copy Mörk Borg by having the layout done by a schizo to hide the fact that your rules are like 5 pages tops.

Plus if you're lucky you get an Avatar Legends situations where you make way more money than you'd ever need (or deserve).

Imagine that would be a thing in music. I mean, it kind of is already, but all music shops would go bankrupt if nobody would buy instruments unless they earned money with them.

I own several guitars, a synthesiser and a drum machine. It's purely a hobby. People used to own pianos just for recreational use. Yet people will find it odd for certain instruments. Own a drumset without being in a band and see how people react.
