I'm also going for a non-shortcut run (age 21 after the Squats so far). I'm aiming for the true ending, and those Shrine bonuses that boost Structure damage are gonna be very helpful there.

I've heard mixed things about bayo 2. Some say it's much better than the first because of the tighter mission structure. Others say the combat is dumbed down from bayo 1 and full of added jank. Bayo 3 reception is even more mixed. I've heard some say Bayo 3 has the best combat in the series. Others (rightly) point out the game performs like dogshit on the switch and has terrible visuals.

I'd say Bayo 2 takes about as many steps forward as it takes steps back.
It's nice that it has less stupid gimmick stages (fuck that motorcycle segment in Bayo 1 takes
forever), but I feel like the bosses leave more to be desired.
Bayo 2 has an odd fascination with boss fights that are pure firefights. You just dodge shit and shoot shit back. I can
almost understand that with the kaiju-sized bosses, but then you have shit like the fight against
Not-Phantom-from-the-Devil-May-Cry-series and all I ended up doing was ploink arrows at him 'cause the fucker was shy af or something.
And then there's the much-hyped Alraune boss fight. I just kept whacking her with my newly-acquired hammer and somehow managed to ace the fight on my first try. WTF, I didn't even know what I was doing half the time
Also it turns out that demons
not made out of hair look a bit underwhelming compared to the freaky angel designs. Should've ripped off some design ideas from Hieronymus Bosch or Berserk.
And to my knowledge Bayo 3 now limits you to one weapon at a time because of some fugly Devil Trigger ripoff. Lame.
