Re: What are you playing?
Nice. I was gonna nope out if you were recommending some 1st edition jank. 2nd edition/AD&D is my favorite for vidya gaem adaptations, based on what I've played so far. There's just some stuff about 3rd and 3.5-based games that can be weird. Like how open classes are. It barely feels like classes exist in neverwinter nights, because every level up allows you to choose which (of ALL of the classes) to dip your level into. So neverwinter classes will be shit like Druid 2, Fighter 1, Rogue 5 or whatever the fuck. I prefer picking my class or class combo at the start, I think. More restrictions, but a less samey experience on subsequent plays. And more differences between party members.

Re: What are you playing?
Not to mention the Feat system effectively forcing you to plan out your character from the start (unless you can respec, which might be in one of those Pathfinder video games?).
But if it's any consolidation, rest assured that sticking to a class is generally the better option - especially if you're a spellcaster.
(Notable exceptions include getting 2 levels as a Paladin before switching to a Sorcerer so you get that sweet CHA modifier to all saving throws, and dipping into Fighter for at most 2 levels for those extra combat Feats)
Or you say "screw it" and do this:

You can respec on both Pathfinder games, but it costs increasingly more gold for each level you have (which shouldn't be a problem, gold is very plentiful anyway). If you want to do Unearthed Arcana/4D&D style respecs (retrain one feat into another), there's a mod for that as well.

I can't decide if I should play Kingmaker or not. The game has a pretty good engine it seems, but those strong and independent female characters concerns me. Maybe I should go back to PoE where I quit mid game because I got busy (heck it's been like that for every big game for quite some time), that game had a pretty good enemy AI.
Other than that, I'll definitely play Skald. I already tried the demo, and it was solid and tight, it will turn out pretty good. hopefully
>D&D games
I highly recommend Knights of the Chalice. That game is basically a miracle, even the developer himself doesn't understand why it turned out to be so good (he somehow messed up the second game). Gold box games are okay but quite archaic from today's standard, you probably need gold box companion to maintain sanity. If you wanna go pure, Amiga version is the best (better color/sound than DOS ver).

Most DnD3x(-like) games are balanced in a way they can be finished with pure class chars, even though multi-class is definitely stronger/deeper with lots of min-max options. The biggest problem of NWN1 in particular imo is, it's designed as an online co-op where you can directly control the main character only. New modules have improved AI but it's still not great. Online co-op is eventually quite fun though (my personal recommendations are Eye of the Beholder and Aielund Saga).rabidtictac wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:55 pmThere's just some stuff about 3rd and 3.5-based games that can be weird. It's a common problem with 3.X-likes in that you can't really do much with money unless the game lets you create custom magic items.Le Redditeur wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 2:05 amYou can respec on both Pathfinder games, but it costs increasingly more gold for each level you have (which shouldn't be a problem, gold is very plentiful anyway).

The GOG versions have manuals. They should be easy to find. If you want to payfag, the go for a buck something during sales.

Re: What are you playing?
I finally decide to go back RPG, but somehow ended up playing My Friend Pedro and holy shit this game good. It's a must-play if you're a Hotline Miami / Max Payne / Fear / whatever fan.
