Seriously, who the fuck even asked for another sequel? The franchise has been dead for over 18 years. The two leads are as old as shit, and from the trailers, the story is a blatant retread of the first movie (right down to nu-characters replacing the original cast as the new stand ins) literally TFA'ing the same plot threads to the most soulless extent possible. The fact it's also dual releasing on HBO Max is indicative of an imminent box office bomb. Why haven't the Wachowskis inevitably offed themselves yet?

On the business side of things, it would be stupid not to make a sequel. After all, Reeves is one of the biggest actors right now and a sequel will happen whether you like it or not, but again, no one outside the industry wants it.

I just want to reiterate that there has only ever been a single good Matrix movie. You can't build a franchise off that.

How good the first matrix film is, is a matter of debate, naturally. But I maintain it's still a fun movie if you watch it and then stop after that. Don't watch any of the other shit because it will make the first movie worse by association.
