Fallout 74(?) did that. It's been a thing for quite a while. Mafia 2 was a DVD with the Steam installer on it.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 7:54 pmEven the fancy-ass Ultra Limited Collector's Editions (tm) just give you the download code most of the time.

I think they should just include a DVD made out of candy to ease the pain.

Or a coupon for a free McRib. That would ease my pain well.

Game installs are up to 80+ GB for AAA bullshit now, so no one is going to distribute them physically.
Also they're all garbage and you shouldn't be installing any of them from any source.

That's the biggest reason why I don't care about the digital only thing. It's not like I would've gotten Call of Poopy 46 anyway, legal or not.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 4:31 pmAlso they're all garbage and you shouldn't be installing any of them from any source.

This. You could fit hundreds of good retro games from the gba, snes, gbc, ds, ps1, nes, genesis etc eras into the same space you would use to download one 10-hour $60 calladooty.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 4:31 pmGame installs are up to 80+ GB for AAA bullshit now, so no one is going to distribute them physically.

I think the whole SNES and GB libraries fit on your standard SD card now.
Now those are treasures to last throughout the ages. Well, the gems among all the shovelware trash anyway.

Oldshit!
Ghosts and Goblins: I've been playing the nes version because why the fuck not. Very impressive for such an old console port, but quite primitive. The nonstop dick moves make the game feel like a modern romhack. Big ups to spawning a torch on a staircase so that I can't climb down it without picking up the torch.
Gargoyle's Quest 2: Excellent. Hard as fuck platformer with great visuals and sound.
Bionic Commando (Game Boy): Might be better than the nes game? It's phenomenal. I have no idea how they made this work on the game boy. It's both a port of the nes game and its own thing. Veers much more heavily into cyberpunk '80s anime designs. Surprisingly complex for a game boy action game. Absolutely still holds up.
Super Movieblob Brothers 3: It's mario 3. I never liked it as much as World, 64 or Mario Land 2, but there's nothing wrong with it. Massive game and full of secrets.
Add Bionic Commando to Mega Man V and Wario Land 1 in the list of games I never played when I was a child, but which are 100% required playing for anybody who enjoys older titles. All three represent some of the best visuals, sound and gameplay on the game boy (not counting rpgs like poggermans I guess.)

Re: What are you playing?
Agreed about Triple A bullshit, most of it is oversized garbage.
I replayed Vanquish recently in the form of the 10th anniversary remaster. That game is so much fun, especially seeing as it came out in the era where cover based shooters were over saturated, I think making cover an option and letting you use high speed action and slow mo instead of forcing you to rely on it is how you do it right. The plot is hilarious, I posted some clips on the Politics board but it’s almost relevant to current year shit in a way, namely in government corruption.
Around Halloween Nintendo had a brief sale on the Corpse Party games for the 3DS and Switch. They were discounted pretty low so I grabbed both. First one is interesting, I’ve seen the OVA so I know the gist of the story, but I found out that they’re releasing the first one for the Switch some time next year and wish I’d known before buying. It’s kinda slow, but a decent horror adventure game so far.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is also excellent. The remixed soundtrack alone is a masterpiece.
Don't confuse it with the 3D BC that came out that same year, which is pretty bad.
