It started with the Quake II engine, then the Unreal engine(s). At some point it may or may not have also switched to the Doom 3 engine.

Tobefaire, Dead Island was always garbage.

Yeah, unfortunately so. The first third of the game was kind of enjoyable. But once guns were introduced, the gameplay went to shit fast.

I pirated it back then and it was interesting for a little while but quickly became repetitive and tedious.

Funny part about Duke Nukem Forever is that people blame Gearbox for it sucking due to not giving it enough muh time even though it took forever to develop due to 3D Realms being dumbass.

I don't blame Gearbox just saying fuck it make the textures good since people have wanted the game and we don't want to fall in the same trap

Also my understanding is the lead was an idiot who always saw something in another game and said add it to DNF even though their game wasn't set up for it so development kept resetting that way as well
