He was pretty funny his first few years as a host when his show was on at 4 am in most places and nobody bothered watching, but once he got super popular and mainstream around 2001 or so he turned to shit. The Tonight Show only furthered the drop, and when he went to cable he only got worse, culminating in one of the worst instances of Trump Derangement Syndrome I've ever seen (literally lying to get people murdered in Haiti because Orange Man supposedly called it a shithole in a private meeting).

Fuck Conan. The other guys are awful, but as far as I know Colbert never actively tried to get people killed.
