Aspartame has absolutely no effect with regards to weight loss (or diabetes).

Honestly the best way to get off of soda, in general, is to go for those carbonated flavored waters. Some of them can actually taste really good. They're not great for you but they definitely aren't bad for you as long as you find the ones that have minimal extra ingredients beyond carbonation, water, and flavoring.

I went from those to sweet teas and kool aids. I only drink these two, so often, because the little bit of sugar and liquid keeps me from getting too hungry and I have pain any time I digest food so I tend to only eat small meals and supplement it with slightly sweet liquids.

I'd love to see Boogie jump from sodas to slightly sweetened drinks and behold as he sheds at least 50 pounds in a month. My mother felt like she was fat (she's really not but she's convinced she is) and stopped drinking coca cola every day for about 3 months before she got back on it. She dropped about 10 pounds and she's considered relatively fit by medical standards so if she can do it so can Boogie.

No it is unhealthy in the weight gain sense, and that is establiahed fact. It causes your body to produce insulin and store excess fat because that's what aspartame does to the body. It fucks your metabolism. In ways that even regular soda doesn't do.

Doesn't look at all like an established fact.

Evidence still seems very spotty, even in the articles that would tend to lean in your direction.

I hardly ever drink soda, even diet, but I'm enjoying this argument.

No, but it doesn't contribute to it, either. If you switch to diet, at least you cut the calories from sodas from your diet.

Aspartame is one of the most studied food additives in existence. People have been bitching about it longer than vaccine/autism connection.

Aspartame is not healthy but it's not the super villain people make it out to be.

Meaning once again that drinking diet soda is fucking pointless and it really only exists to make fatties feel healthy while they chug their 52 ounce big gulp.

Yeah, once you get away from soda for a long period of time you eventually don't need it everyday. I actually used to really like those carbonated flavored waters as well, but eventually the carbonation really got to me and moved onto other things.

Though I won't lie, I did sorta splurge when crystal pepsi came back out.

Because aspartame doesn't contribute to blood sugar spikes, so aspartame doesn't satisfy your bodies lust for glucose. Chances are you'll eat more potato chips or popcorn with your diet Pepsi.

The study you linked simply compared data and correlated that people drinking aspartame gain weight, but admitted they are unsure as to why.

Ew.

My wife loves that stuff but to me it just tastes like a flat, phlegm-filled cream soda.
