Youtube has gotten quite ban-happy recently. Common Filth made a podcast screaming that it was Trump's fault but that conspiracy theory nut has nothing to do with our friends here.

TFS veered way the fuck off from parody and pretty much started reinventing the series. Just look at the recent episodes with all the drama and whatnot. They started making their own continuity, own lore, own characters seemingly forgetting that this is still Toei animation. They keep the warning tag up-front for shits and giggles but this was comming for a long time now.

Still, they have their own page, their own webplayer set up so, even if their channel goes belly-up they are not Doge and Co. They will leave a note saying: "hey, go to our web if you want more abridged stuff, k thx bye!"

No idea, but random guy sounds more right than I. But aren't dragon balls and vegeta considered trademarks or some shit? Like, it should be illegal for TFS to sell t-shirts with the dragon ball z "images" on them. For a while anyway, the dragon balls themselves were part of the title art for the "Dragon Ball Z" mangas, and the anime as well IIRC.
Putting images of Vegeta or the Dragon Balls on the shirts would be clear copyright infringement (and unlike the abridged series itself, there is basically no argument, even a weak one, for fair use on them). Though I think they stopped doing that. At any rate, it's not an infringement of trademark, though, but an infringement of copyright. Trademark is, as noted, a mark. You can't really trademark a fictional character or concept, but you can trademark the name. Dragon Ball, of course, is trademarked, but the actual dragon balls themselves in the series are copyrighted. Same thing with Vegeta; it's possible to trademark the name, but the character can't be trademarked, just copyrighted.

All that said, there could be a case for trademark violation in terms of the title "Dragon Ball Z Abridged." After all, "Dragon Ball Z" is trademarked, and all they did was add the word "Abridged" at the bottom; not only that, the way "Dragon Ball Z" is written in "Dragon Ball Z Abridged" is basically copied straight from the actual symbol for Dragon Ball Z (Dragon being colored yellow, Ball Z being colored Red, and the O being a picture of a Dragon Ball). Unfortunately, my knowledge of trademarks is less than that of copyright, so I don't know how much of a case they'd have there; it's true the "Dragon Ball Z" part is a dead ringer for the original trademark, but the additional "Abridged" might be sufficient as a differentiator to pass.

"We've been working on this for eight years now"

No shit, retard. This is why you don't tie your future to a website that isn't employing you and could just ban you or pull all your videos tomorrow. Oh, BLIP BLIP BLIP isn't working out for you because BLIP went under? What a shock!

At least this guy has a website and can sell his copyright-violating merch.

They still get 12K a month on Patreon. That's 4K split 3 ways. 50K a year....

How much do they need to monetize in order to make ends meet for the company?

Still, consider they're self employed so they pay more in taxes and no health insurance. Also, I'd imagine they pay office rent before divvying up the rest to go to their bank accounts.

Even so, let's say they cleared 40k after everything was said and done (and that's being generous). Voice actors wish they could have such a stable income like that, that's why they are on strike.

Very, very few VAs make a living wage from just one job and most that do were just regular actors that fell into long-lasting gigs.

Also, the strike is a joke. There hasn't been any SAG-endorsed boycott of a game, and video game sales haven't suddenly plummeted like they were hoping. The only support I'm seeing is from nerds who want to please the VAs they idolize.
