This. I had more fun with dark knight rises as well. Superhero movies always need a little touch of silliness. Not muh mahvul "wacky" hipsterisms, but genuine silliness like Bane memeing in a football stadium.
Re: Brad Jones, The Cinema Snob
There's usually one of two answers. First is that the movie isn't really a 'superhero' movie. Not counting the bit in China, which feels like it's in a different movie, there's really nothing in it that couldn't have been in an "Untouchables" or "The Raid"-style cop movie.Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 6:42 pmI still would like an answer on this.Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:13 ambut can someone remind me what was wrong with The Dark Knight?
Strip away the costumes, lighten up on what was done to Dent to be realistic and make the Bruce-specific scenes either public events or in a SWAT weapons locker, etc, and nothing really changes. The bit at the end with the night vision was fairly unnecessary, especially if it's a team making the assault and not one guy.
Second is that the movie really does have a very dour tone. People went in expecting a fun movie and got, well, that. Surprisingly little in the movie is really over the top like someone might expect. Aspects, sure, but most of it is very street level in what happens and a lot of people find that far scarier and/or disconcerting rather than ridiculous fun.
Example of that last: Thanos wiping out half the universe with a snap is a fun idea. Hearing that someone got shoved onto the tracks at a subway in your city is terrifying.

I still like it more than the whole PG-13 Marvel mountain of soy, but maybe it's because i don't like superheroes very much in general

I like The Dark Knight just fine as a movie, but if I'm thinking I wanna watch some Batman, I'd put on the Tim Burton one and watch Jack Nicholson dance to Prince music.
Re: Brad Jones, The Cinema Snob
Same, that movie has so much personality and atmosphere to it, Nolan films are just dull in comparison.

That's the entire point of Batman. People should never have really been expecting "fun" with him in the first place.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 1:48 pmSecond is that the movie really does have a very dour tone. People went in expecting a fun movie and got, well, that.
It sounds like people don't like Dark Knight for the same reason Blob and Razor want people to like the prequels.... because it originates from a medium or concept originally based for children, it shouldn't be completely devoid of camp and god forbid it make an honest attempt to be high art.
Dark Knight isn't even my favorite Batman movie (Mask of the Phantasm or GTFO), but anyone who wants to say it's not the best live action Batman film because there isn't any silliness just sounds like they're looking for something to complain about. That's a stupid requirement for a superhero movie anyway.

Something more? XD A dumb boring movie is something more?? People just overrate the fuck out of that trilogy because heath ledger died and then keep fooling themselves the sequals werent horrible.
I still cant get over how comically bad Bane was. Or how punching a spine fixes it etc wow that trilogy was beyond retardeded and dull.

Capeshit is inherently silly. Not embracing it in some way or another is bound to make the final result feel jarring.Pope Corky III wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 12:35 amDark Knight isn't even my favorite Batman movie (Mask of the Phantasm or GTFO), but anyone who wants to say it's not the best live action Batman film because there isn't any silliness just sounds like they're looking for something to complain about. Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.
