Read an interesting article talking about the whole Harry and Meghan thing which suggests that obsession with talk therapy, psychotherapy and excessive navel gazing has actually made us more narcissistic as a society. Can't help but look at Spoony and strongly suspect that's true.

Maybe among boomers that's true. For everyone else: the things people used to do that most felt meaningful (family, home ownership, many years at the same workplace and the bonds that this creates) are out of reach for some, who are instead seeking meaning in basic bitch identity politics. They all talk like instagram hashtags like "I walk in pride with my bipoc queer family!" which, put another way (the honest way) means "My life is about sucking cock and living as an evolutionary dead-end when I die alone, in squalor."

Yes but the article's point is that while a little bit of talk therapy and venting might help things, eventually you've just got to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and get on with life. The kind of attitude you're talking about ('I can't find meaning in life because those boomers took it all away') is kind of what's led to a whole wave of generational narcissism. Therapists profit off it because they like repeat customers.

Basically, to bring it back to Spoony, Spoons would not get anything out of a therapist that he's not already getting from his braindead 41%er followers. Unless he went to one of those rare, no-nonsense therapists like in this episode of the Sopranos. Even then, he'd probably do what the wife character ended up doing, which was find some way to discredit, and therefore totally ignore, his advice
