I've known friends who have moved out of TX because the job market was really tough like 5-10 years ago. They moved to a place to get experience in a career field, and then moved back to TX. It seems like the living arrangement was the issue not the job, at least that's how it read in that message.

I want to know why the cat is in California. Wouldn't that be something to stay in TX until the big move? Like she should only have what she would need the first few months for her job. Basically, clothing and hangers, a bed or futon to sleep on (if they had a futon, she should have brought that), and perhaps a small dresser for clothing (or just get a small one from Goodwill or something there). Hell if she finds a temp place that's furnished, even better, just clothes hangers, a laptop and a phone for apartment research.

Also, is she not familiar with Craigslist? There are tons of people who are subleasing and would take her in for a few months. People have basements that they rent. My guess is she is looking for a place free, and that's no good. She should have before venturing out here, found a small basement (preferably furnished so she has to bring less stuff), stay there for like 3 months until an apartment can be found for her and husband, also giving her enough time to earn the security deposit and first month's rent most places require before moving in. Then then have husband get movers to pack the shit up and move to California.
