It's because real abridging has never been tried.
Abridgers keep making the mistake of making the abridged show their main content, or work so long on it that it inevitable becomes their main content. Then they start doing everything in their power to prolong actually finishing the damn story, since their fans might just fuck off once it has concluded.

In an ideal world you'd get 15-20 minute of unhinged summaries of entire story arcs. Like a more expanded version of this:

At best, Abridged series can convince you to revisit a show you used to like. That's what DBZA did for me, and honestly the more DB I actually watch, the more shit TFS becomes.

Yougaybro is even worse, because after a while 4Kids was coming up with shit that was funnier than anything LK could think of, usually in the form of Kaiba lines.

Well the worst part is that they draw him like a full grown adult, but then you remember he's in the same class as Yugi and his friends, but you only get that info if you or anyone bothered to watch the first episode. The writing was never top tier, but man 4kids wanted to have fun with it. Fans pretend that the show had quality writing and the dub ruined it, but the dub made it fun, same with GX honestly, because GX was like a fever dream. DBZ was kinda in the same boat where it had a tiny less humor than the original Dragon Ball, but it tried, and Ocean tried to make it easier for kids to watch week to week by making things easy to remember, and when Funimation started in-house dubbing it got a little more difficult because they really were trying to copy the established voices the best they could, but started adapting into a more serious tone for the show.

I am at that point where I think every abridger's downfall is simple, they get old and their sense of humor hits the wall, then they take a moral high ground and say "oh my humor developed from being a kid to being an adult and my humor became more complex" no bro you can still think dick and fart jokes are funny if you build up your jokes or do it in a way that it's actually funny, nobody wants to hear you scream about Kamen Rider or American Horror Story.

It takes about 3 1/2 seasons for the Yougaybro dub to start writing Kaiba as a Kaiba spoof, but its mostly kino when they do.

Reminds me of how that Skoringo guy kept saying I was a white supremacist who hates the gays and trans and literally tried messaging my ex on the abridged wikia because he wanted to get dirt on me and "cancel" me further. Idiot doesn't get that nobody really cares about me, but he wants to make sure nobody would ever work with me because he wants the upper hand at every turn, but his behavior was public and casting call club disabled his account because he went on that rant to get me canceled because it was a bad look on the site. People should be allowed to make jokes regardless of how good or bad they are, as long as they are considered jokes, because it isn't like anyone is physically doing anything to one another, they are just trying to get a laugh out of someone. Today's society is so sheltered that they become too entitled for their own good.
