It really isn't. In tea it's been a thing in the European tea trade regions of England, the Netherlands and northern Germany for ages and in coffee especially Italy used milk ever since the bean hit Europe.

Milk's fat percentages have always been regulated because the fat content is what the price is based on and always has been. So it really wasn't much different to now, epecially considering that a high fat percentage before homogenization causes problems.

That said, for Friesian tea it's cream you use. One teaspoon carefully placed on it to create the clouds.

How do people manage to actually enjoy coffee? I only drink copious amounts of it every day because I sleep only 4-5 hours a night and absolutely need caffeine to not sleep while working. But it's a terrible beverage.
