Birds are fine. I've grown up with birds my entire life. My parents used to breed Senegal parrots. As a little kid, I would feed them from a dropper and they would climb on me. Yes, birds are messy. They are just messier than dogs and cats because they don't use a litter box and they eat nuts/fruit all day.



These birds can be very sweet, but they have a Jekyl and Hyde personality. It's pretty common for them to beg for attention, let you pet them and then spin around to nail you with their beak. People compare their personality to an african grey. They're not like cockatoos that love everyone.

We adopted a budgerigar from my aunt when I was a kid. He was a black-white-blue one and already fifteen years old and had a broken wing. He lived to 21 years. They usually live from anywhere of five to ten years. Older cases are known but very rare. He was already super old when we took him.
I like birds for how peaceful and lacking in hate beings they are. They just operate not unlike machines. They do show character but are clearly very simple creatures. There's a placidness I'm very fond of with birds. They've been around for much longer so one should pay some respect to such an efficient life form.
