January 02, 1914 - September 27, 2006

Gilbert Dee Antwiler, age 92, of the Fristoe Community, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at the Lincoln Community Nursing Home. He was born on January 2, 1914, in Fristoe, Missouri, the son of John William & Anna O’Bryan Antwiler.

He grew up in the Fristoe area and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1934, and attended college briefly after high school graduation. On March 20, 1938, he married Zella Faye Woirhaye, in Stockton, California. They returned to the family farm in Missouri in September of 1939, where they currently resided. They lived in Florida briefly in 1945. They farmed and raised registered sheep, hogs & polled Hereford cattle. They also had a huge laying hen operation and had a large egg route in the Warsaw-Fristoe area. He was a farmer-cowboy thru and thru and anyone who knew or saw him knew this by his physical appearance, as the horses, etc. had bent and broken him frequently.

He was a lifetime member of the Fristoe Baptist Church and had held every office from Supt., song leader & teacher of all of the classes. He oversaw the Fristoe Cemetery for over 20 years and handled many a problem.

He served on the ASCS & Soils-Crops committees for many years; was a member of the MFA Board; was a member of the Fristoe Saddle Club for its duration, serving as President at least once; and wrote the Fristoe Items for the “Enterprise” plus various articles & poems for more years than can be counted, only ceasing for health problems.

He was still actively involved on the farm with his cattle until September 2005, but was forced to seriously SLOW DOWN in February 2006 due to additional health problems.

This son of a bitch was driving cattle at 91 years old.

I mean, most people these days wouldn't compare favourably compared to their grand parents. Sorry of a state of the world it may be. But it's still brutal when your grandfather was a humble but successful farmer that, apparently, was welcome wherever he went and had the same success and was valued all over the nation when that wasn't even particularly impressive but rather expected.
Now his grandson is whining like a bitch over a tooth ache for weeks and after that comfortably settles back into his old five year routine of just being sorry for himself for no good reason.
