He uses phasers in the skit, if I remember correctly. The rocket launcher was just to emphasise the absurdity.
A lot of the gags Spoony did were utter shit that made no sense(like the time he just piled slime on his sword gun thing), but this one is fairly simple. It's a crazy game with Balrogs and phasers and space shuttles.
