Youtube recommended a Spoony talk from 2013 and I clicked on it. 6 years ago, Spoony was in Finland for "Animecon X 2013", he is on stage in front of what seems like half an auditorium. Which I think is fine given the demographics of Finland. And they were celebrating him talking about Mexican food in Finland and bitching about Final Fantasy.

It saddens me that he just threw it all away. Brad managed to do it by just filming fucking everything he did and he got a hot wife and steady patreon munies out of it. But then again, fate was not as cruel to Brad. At least I think he never had a branch fall on his lawn.

Spoony's case is pretty fascinating in that his fall from where he was to where he is was completely and utterly self-inflicted. Jim and Fred both made the point that a lot of it had to do with pissing away the goodwill he had built up over however many years he was active, and I find myself wondering how much of that goodwill was ever actually reciprocated. That is, to what degree did he always hate (or at least see as a necessary evil, so to speak) the people watching his stuff, but had to put up with them because he saw this interbutts-bideo shit as a stepping stone to the career he saw himself eventually attaining? It's been brazen for a good few years now just how much he hates them now, and I wonder how closely that matches up timewise with it sinking in that this shit isn't a Yellow Brick Road leading him to Hollywood. Genuine question: What was Spoony doing shortly before and shortly after that tweet where MST3K Man didn't know who the fuck he was? That may well actually have been the moment that dashed his delusions of this pursuit eventually leading to grandeur.
