Getting a licence costs an arm and a leg. I actually applied to be a driver during my national service bc the army gives you exams for free, but of course they want to save money and thus show preference to people who already own a licence.

Getting a license is so cheap there! Something like 800-900 €. Many Finns travel to Estonia to perform their driving licenses. In Tallinn there's even one driving school which gives driving instruction classes in Finnish (Niguliste Autokool) since they are having so much customers from here. Even with all the travel expenses and added administrative fees it's still a lot cheaper than here (2500-3000 €).

Cheap is relative. I won't get into financials, but let's just say that when I have the money to spend and the time to do it, I'll do it.

Surely they'd have given you some driver's education anyway? What happens if you needed to drive a tank?

From what I gathered, driving the tanks (or rather, armoured vehicles in this case) takes a fair amount of skill and they only teach that to professional soldiers, not to nobody privates who are just there for 11 months before sodding off and only come back to be potential cannon fodder in war.

We did get some rudimentary instructions on how to operate the gunner position though.

Driving a tank isn't that bad. The real bitch is when they put you operate a F/A 18-Hornet. Such pressure, man.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: My boyfriend (who shuffles me to the post office as often as we can) was in a car accident very recently. He is safe and relatively unhurt; our car, however, is wrecked beyond repair or use. Due to this, orders may very well be late/later until we figure out insurance stuff and the feasibility of a rental/loaner vehicle.

Going to court would require quite a lot of work, stress, and time not spent on twitter, so I can see that happening.
