Loathe as I am to even slightly defend social media, it isn't even Twitter's fault, really. The way people behave on social media is less directly tied to the platform itself, and more the result of the (goddam fucking accursed) self-esteem movement of the past few decades. It all works together to form a perfect storm of bullshit.

I don't think these people would be nearly as insufferable if they only had IRL or random message boards as outlets. They love this social media shit so much (since it is essentially custom-tailored to stimulate their little egos) that they become addicted to it.

Oh, I don't disagree in the slightest. Hence the whole "working together" aspect of my little diatribe. But I have to be fair; there are people who use the platforms in less insufferable ways, and I don't think the creators intended them to get overrun by this shit, so I can't in good conscience blame the platforms themselves. The cons doubtlessly outweigh the pros, though. Holy fuck.

I'm here to tell you that I get it. At least a little bit. As someone who struggles on a daily basis with Anxiety and Depression, I understand just how hard it is to even get out of bed sometimes. Hell, even just taking the time to write a tweet or Facebook post takes mental preparation some days.
I guess what I'm trying to get at here is that there ARE some people who understand the struggles you're going through and we hope you get better some day.

What sucks is I’ve worked with people who dealt with crippling mental illness, and they were a lot more sympathetic than Spoony and the other INs. I don’t know, maybe it’s because they didn’t pour toxicity through the world via the internet or just that they actually came off as decent people who were genuinely suffering, but vile wretches like Spoony will never get that empathy from me.
