Re: TFS got copyright struck again
Any good parodies out there? Not just of dragonball but in general?

Re: TFS got copyright struck again
I've heard of a very obscure one that abridges a card-focused anime you've probably never heard of...
Nah, can't really come up with one aside form the big ones. I just don't watch abridged shows, as I've found most are neither very funny, well-edited nor -dubbed.

There are no good abridged parodies. The only ones you'll like are the ones from shows that you watch that are self aware enough to realize they're only making jokes that people who enjoy the source material will understand.
Most of them, including DBZ:A, try too hard to insert internet maymays. While I enjoy the earlier episodes of DBZ:A because of the fact that they were making fun of the source material, the maymays they inserted have aged horribly, with only a few of them still retaining the chuckle factor.
(Chuckle factor being, "how many of these jokes make me giggle a bit while my wife is asleep next to me, causing me to risk waking her up.")

I didn't mean abridged parodies.

You're asking about parodies in a topic talking about an abridged parody. Clarify.

If you want something more general, I'll only say "Shaun of the Dead" and "Kung Fu Hustle". Though those are more genre parodies.

Konosuba is the first thing that comes to mind. OnePunch man goes without fucking saying. I am a Hero is quite good as horror parody but it doesn't have as much comedy. Samurai Champloo fell into parody territory pretty soon (although some 14 year olds want to be like Jin because....that's what teenagers do) and I can't think of any more right now.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2017 6:30 amIf you want something more general, I'll only say "Shaun of the Dead" and "Kung Fu Hustle". As for abridged series, the only competent one in recent memory (I remember the horro that was 2009 when every week there was a new fucking abridged show on air) is Sword Art Online Abridged:

But how good is SAOA if you care neither about the show nor MMOs?

They care enough to take the piss out of the original creators. That's more dedication than just throwing memes around.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2017 10:16 amBut how good is SAOA if you care neither about the show nor MMOs?

Re: TFS got copyright struck again
I always preferred Hot Fuzz to Shaun of the Dead but that's just me.
The best parodies usually come from the heart and are done as a roast rather than a mockery. For example, Monty Python and the Holy Grail had two Arthurian historians on the writing team. Blazing Saddles is a send up of westerns, while also being a Western and following many of the tropes, to the point where John Wayne was approached for a role. Same with Airplane/Flying High, it makes fun of a movie while also being a disaster movie. Shrek, was a bit of a mockery but played enough of the Disney formula straight that it never really came off as mean-spirited, except towards Michael Eisner.
Unfortunately this doesn't always translate to good. TFS, for example, know the lore of Dragonball back to front but never really did much with that knowledge until they stopped being a parody and just became a fan dub,
