It's beyond clear to me why he would say that trash. But outside of a fucked up mindset I ask: Why?Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 11:05 pmIt's obvious what he meant. I think he seriously buys into the 'most gamers are girls'' idea that the SJWs keep pushing.
It can't be the GameBOY in [current year +2] why? Because it says "boy"? Who thinks of boys when they hear "Gameboy"? That's just the name for it. It's a term that trancends the parts it's made of. My parents know what a Gameboy is. My grandparents knew. Everyone knows what a Gameboy is. Nobody is asking where the screwdriver is driving the screws to. Nobody who isn't mentally damaged even registers the word "boy" in the name "Gameboy". That's true for native English speakers and even more true for those who aren't.
The other reason I'm asking is that he directly implies it should be called something different. Not just anything different, though. But he stops at the >implication. Because we all know it would be fucking retarded to call it Gamegirl, which is why he's not spelling it out.
The way most languages are, the male is the de facto neutral. Calling something a male version is the norm and not even perceived as "male". Every single job description in German is, technically speaking, written in the male form. Every item is technically in the male form. Military titles and such are male form only in almost all languages. It's "detective" no matter the sex of the person. "Gameboy" nobody bats an eyelash at. "Gamegirl" people would think "What the fuck?". The first is just a name, the second is named that way for a specific reason.
I don't know if Blob ever noticed, likely not, but people don't like companies pushing agendas. Nintendo doesn't want to look like having one. In fact, they make a point out of being as apolitical as possible. He still didn't get that agendas are marketing poison. It's a hill many have died on and many more will in the future. It's not worth it if you just want to sell something.
